Under normal conditions, about half of the employees that suffer from depression remain undiagnosed and will continue to show higher absenteeism and lower productivity, compared to treated employees. A concerted effort to encourage diagnosis and treatment among this non-treated group could result in substantial improvements in absenteeism and productivity.
For the workforce specified in this current simulation, the following chart displays the “upper bound” net benefit, over three years, of diagnosing and treating 80% of workers suffering from depression (acknowledging that up to 20% of depressives will be difficult to diagnose and treat under usual care conditions):
| Low end of range: |
$27,333 |

High end of range: |
